Why a 7-minute presence practice is all you need.
Yep, that’s it. Seven minutes.
Last week, I dropped a 7-minute practice without much fanfare. I just wanted to see how it landed. This week, we dive into the why.
One of the great mysteries of transformation is that change never happens in a straight line. In a Year in Conscious Living, our teachers, Russ Hudson and Jessica Dibb, taught us the why behind seven - the Law of Seven. They taught us that when we set out with a clear goal, somewhere along the way, our momentum dips, distractions arise, or resistance sneaks in. This is the Law of Seven in action.
The Law of Seven teaches that any process, whether it’s learning a new skill, deepening a relationship, or doing inner work, unfolds in seven stages. Along the way, there are two natural “bend points” where things tend to veer off course. Just for a moment, think about anything you’ve wanted to create and notice those bends. Without awareness, this process can stall - we give up when we feel resistance. With awareness, those very turning points become invitations to bring in new energy, intention, and presence, allowing the cycle to complete. This is how our 7-minute practice embodies the Law of Seven.
Our seven-minute practice starts in the body, one of three Centers of Intelligence. This is our first step in the Law of Seven. Deepening our awareness of breath in the body, where we feel expansion. We stay here in minute two.
Minute Three comes along, and we transition to the heart Center, our first bend point. A little transition, but through minutes three and four, we bring gentle attention and compassion to the heart, feeling the openness, openness, gratitude, tenderness - its sweetness.
Transitioning into minute Five, we move to our next bend point into the head Center of Intelligence, where we notice our thoughts without attaching. We try to meet thoughts with presence instead of losing ourselves in them. Minute Six gives us the opportunity to clear the mind and let it open to the possibilities, our curiosities, our infinite wisdom, and awareness.
And finally, in Minute Seven, we integrate all three centers of intelligence - body, heart, and head. Feel grounded in the body, open in the heart, spacious in the mind, and we rest in Being where all three are alive together.
The 7-minute meditation is not just a quick centering practice — it’s a living enactment of the Law of Seven:
Start → build → turning point (minute 3) → stabilize → turning point (minute 5) → clarity → integration.
Each “bend” asks for fresh presence and consciousness so the cycle can be complete.
🌀 Try It Yourself: A 7-Minute Practice
You don’t have to just read about the Law of Seven - you can live it. In fact, if you listened last week, you did live it. This simple 7-minute meditation takes you through seven stages of awareness, each one activating a different part of your being. Notice especially how your attention shifts at minutes 3 and 5 - the very “bend points” where transformation either stalls or deepens.
By practicing staying present at those moments, you’ll start to feel how this law plays out not only in meditation, but also in everyday life. Almost every participant in the course I took recently has said, nothing has been as transformational as practicing this daily. I agree. I have included another practice here.
🌸 A Taste of Pattern to Presence
This 7-minute practice is just one way we explore presence, patterns, and transformation together. In my upcoming Pattern to Presence workshop for women, this practice will deepen our daily life awareness and allow you to notice how you are showing up and the patterns that sometimes hold you back.
Through supportive group guidance, hands-on practices like this meditation, and gentle AI-supported reflection, you’ll experience what it feels like to bring your whole self - body, heart, and mind - into greater alignment.
If you’ve ever wanted a space to be both seen and supported while learning practical tools for real change, this is your invitation. I am limiting this group to six women. Claim your spot today: Pattern to Presence Women's Group sign up
